POS .NET Vendors

I am new to POS .NET development and have a question about supported vendors.
Does POS .NET need to be supported by the hardware vendor, or does the USB
interface handle that for us.. ?

I am in the early stages of writing a application for a Jail system that
will use bar coding. Would love to use POS .Net because of the obvious
flexability and ease of implementation.
Thanks,

Ideally, the hardware vendor supplies the service object or OPOS driver to
work with POS for .NET. This is not always the case.

I have some vendors listed here: http://www.seanliming.com/WEPOS.html, but
you will want to contact hardware vendors for support.

You do need either a native .NET service object or a legacy OPOS service
object in order for POS for .NET to work with your scanner. HHP
(Honeywell) does offer a native .NET service object. Symbol (Motorola)
has an OPOS service object that you can use. If you are using either of
these scanners, and you need help finding the service objects, I can
look up the links.

Something else to keep in mind, is that scanners often come out of the
box configured as keyboard devices. This is not optimal for modern
applications. For any UPOS use of scanners, you usually will need to
reconfigure the scanner to operate as a USB HID device (by scanning a
barcode from the manufacture). If you are using HHP or Symbol, I can
also provide more details on that. For Symbol, you need to configure to
the "IBM" something emulation configuration (I would need to look it
up).

Check out the POS for .NET team blog (blogs.msdn.com/pointofservice/),
or send an e-mail to the alias on the blog to remind me and I'll post
information for configuring both of these scanners. If you have a
different scanner, it is probably a similar.
